Welcome to Women Build! -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1
Welcome to Women Build!
About Women Build
Women Build is Habitat’s volunteer program for women who want to learn construction skills and make a difference by building homes and communities.
Women Build projects are regularly held by Habitat affiliates across the United States, and by Habitat organizations around the world. Women at these builds have furthered Habitat’s home-building mission by helping to construct more than 1,500 houses.
Join a Women Build in your community
For a listing of upcoming Women Builds, search Habitat's Special Events directory. Select event type “Women Build.”
Don’t worry if you don’t have construction skills. There are several ways for you to be involved and all come with hands-on training.
If you do not find a Women Build project near you, connect with Habitat in your community. Your local affiliate may be planning an event in the near future.
National Women Build Week a success!
In the days leading up to Mother’s Day 2009, more than 7,000 women volunteers, including recording artist Trisha Yearwood, pounded nails and raised walls at more than 200 Habitat for Humanity construction sites throughout the United States. The pre-Mother’s Day activities were part of Habitat’s second annual National Women Build Week, May 2–10, sponsored by Lowe’s.
National Women Build Week annually challenges women to devote at least one day to the effort to eliminate poverty housing. To learn more, visit our National Women Build Week section and be sure to read what our women volunteers were up to in our “Take the Challenge” daily diary. And start thinking about getting involved in 2010!

Lowe’s helps Women Build keep the momentum going
Lowe’s is a major sponsor and underwriter of Women Build and has generously supported our efforts for three years. In 2006 and 2007, Lowe’s sponsored the “Habitat’s First Families Building Homes Across America” initiative. The project challenged state first ladies and women government leaders to make a highly visible commitment to the eradication of poverty housing.
In 2008, Lowe’s sponsored the first “National Women Build Week” and will again be the sponsor for National Women Build Week 2009 on May 2–10. Women volunteers at more than 100 Habitat affiliates across the country joined Lowe’s in building homes. During the weeklong build, Habitat recruited new volunteers and celebrated a decade of volunteer accomplishments since Women Build became a Habitat program.
Lowe’s also offers a series of free how-to clinics for Women Build affiliates. Volunteers learn construction basics through extensive hands-on opportunities.
