Day 1 (Saturday, May 2)

Longview HFH got National Women Build Week started by building with a Habitat homeowner who started out as a volunteer – Longview News-Journal (Texas).

Huntington Area HFH had the start of National Women Build Week highlighted in The State Journal (W.V.).

HFH of Greater Green Bay received coverage in the Green Bay Press-Gazette (Wisc.) as its women volunteers helped cap a foundation during its Women Build day.


Day 2 (Sunday, May 3)

Sea Island (S.C.) HFH’s 10th Women Build – starting during National Women Build Week – is also a sustainable building model, as reported by the Charleston’s The Digitel

Richland County HFH’s Women Build day was featured in the Mansfield News-Journal (Ohio.).

Chatham HFH detailed its upcoming Women Build day plans in the Chatham Journal Weekly (N.C.).


Day 3 (Monday, May 4)

Greater Lycoming HFH’s women volunteers explained why they took they challenge in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette (Penn.).

The Lima-area chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction lent their skills to their local Habitat Women Build day – The Delphos Herald (Ohio).


Day 4 (Tuesday, May 5)

Tulsa (Okla.) HFH’s Women Build day featured an on-site satellite media tour with National Women Build Week supporter Trisha Yearwood. Fox News was one of many news outlets to interview her. And at day’s end, News on 6 covered Yearwood’s speech to Tulsa HFH and future homeowner Tamika Horn. Tulsa World also covered the build itself.

Huntington Area HFH had its National Women Build Week event replayed in a photo slideshow on the Herald-Dispatch Web site.

HFH of Elkhart County (Ind.) received television coverage on Fox28 for its Women Build day.


Day 5 (Wednesday, May 6)

USA Today
featured an interview with National Women Build Week supporter Trisha Yearwood.

Volunteers from Lowe’s joined HFH Riverside’s (Calif.) Women Build in a unique opportunity to help create a YWCA residential treatment center for pregnant women battling drug addictions. (The Press-Enterprise)

West Pasco HFH’s upcoming Women Build day has attracted more volunteers than hoped for according to The SunCoast News.


Day 6 (Thursday, May 7)

HFH of Iredell County’s (N.C.) build day highlighted the affiliate’s 2009 Women Build house that more than 200 women have helped create (Statesville Record & Landmark).

The women of HFH Gallatin Valley’s (Mont.) Women Build were featured in a video segment by Missoula’s CBS affiliate.

The Arizona Daily Star decided to use National Women Build Week to profile one of HFH Tucson’s (Ariz.) stalwart women volunteers.


Day 7 (Friday, May 8)

Stone Soup cartoonist and longtime Women Build advocate Jan Eliot is helping publicize North Willamette HFH’s (Ore.) build in the Editor and Publisher.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland (Maine) is promoting its weekend Women Build day on MaineBusiness.com.

And Parade Magazine has another Trisha Yearwood feature – check out the link through the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.


Day 8 (Saturday, May 9)

Videos galore: A Women Build project in Charlottesville, Va., was covered by a local television station. The video was posted on the national Associated Content news site. Battle Creek Area HFH (Mich.) hung drywall during its National Women Build Week project; getting coverage – and a video – in the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Women volunteers with Columbus-Lowndes County HFH (Miss.) helped build a house for a family of 14 (The Commercial Dispatch).

TriState HFH (Ohio) kicked off its Women Build house construction during National Women Build Week. The Middletown Journal covered how women are helping build a home for a single father and his children.


Day 9 (Sunday, May 10)

An in-depth story and photo slideshow illustrate HFH Newark’s Women Build involvement from fundraising to house-building, in The Star-Ledger. HFH of Hendricks County also had a photo slideshow posted on the Indianapolis Star Web site.

Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman joined in Raritan Valley HFH’s Women Build, covered by the Somerset Reporter.

HFH of Metro Louisville’s Women Build made the news on WHAS11. And HFH La Crosse Area (Wisc.) had its Women Build day covered in print and video by WKBT.

A Women Build in Oakland, Calif., received coverage in the San Francisco Chronicle.


More Mother’s Day coverage

A pair of poignant videos with single fathers: See the video of a Women Build in Hamilton, Ohio, where volunteers helped build a house with a single dad whose wife was murdered two years ago (Local 12, Cincinnati). And watch how Cleveland County HHF in Norman, Okla., helped build with a single father taking care of a son with leukemia and Down’s Syndrome (The Norman Transcript.)

Mother-daughter teams helped build with La Porte County HFH (Ind.), and were covered by The News-Dispatch.

Local women joined Winchester-Frederick County (W.V.) to celebrate National Women Build Week on Mother’s Day (ABC –Winchester 3).

HFH of Northeastern Connecticut renovated a home as part of its first-ever Women Build, covered by the Norwich Bulletin.

Putnam County (Tenn.) HFH’s Mother’s Day build was dedicated to the memory of Linda Bussell, a longtime Habitat volunteer (Herald Citizen).

And Trisha Yearwood wrapped up her National Women Build Week involvement with a build on Katinka Matthews’ home with Southern Crescent HFH (Ga.). Trisha built on Mother’s Day alongside her mother, sister, niece and husband, Garth Brooks (Clayton News Daily).
